Looking Forward, Giving Back: The Columns Community Care Center

As a part of Therapy Center’s company-wide giving back campaign, our therapy teams choose different causes to give back to throughout the year.  Last month, our team at The Columns Community Care Center decided to help out the Catahoula Parish Council on Aging.

“Jonesville is a small town and because we have a high rate of patients that return back to the community, we thought it would be a great idea to collect non-perishables for the elderly within this area,” says Samantha Stanley, PTA at The Columns.

The Catahoula Parish Council on Aging started a Meals on Wheels food drive for the month of May and our therapy team joined in on the efforts. They set up a drop off site at the nursing home to help collect canned goods for the needy in Jonesville.

“As a therapy team in a skilled nursing facility setting we have a lot of demands and patients to treat and care for; however, we realized during this experience how easy it can be to get involved and collect canned foods for others outside of the nursing home,” Kasy Adams, speech language pathologist.

This was the first time our team at The Columns participated in the Giving Back campaign. They felt compelled to do something to benefit the community as a team, and they were able to get the nursing home staff involved to donate as well.Page

“We would really encourage other people, facilities and therapy teams to take the little bit of extra time to collect non-perishables.  It doesn’t take but a second to find some boxes and start asking people to come donate.  We would definitely consider keeping this as a regular community service project because it’s quite simple and the more times we do it, the more people we can involve, including resident’s family members,” Lori Kennedy, OT.

If you are looking for a fun and easy way to give back in your community, Meals on Wheels operates in virtually every community in America through their network of more than 5,000 independently-run local programs.

“The best thing about giving back to the community is knowing that every little thing helps someone else,” Courtney Crooks, COTA.

Therapy Center prides itself on continuing to not only serve their communities, but help give back to them as well.  Click here to read about more therapy teams that have participated in great giving back projects.
